Butch Harmon to Give Obama Golf Lessons

Butch Harmon, the golf instructor who has taught Tiger Woods and now coaches Phil Mickelson, will give President Barack Obama golf lessons this weekend.

“He’s a left-handed player, I’ve seen film of his swing before,”Harmon said. “It’ll be fun getting him down in the learning center, show him stuff in his golf game and see how he takes it to the course.”

According to Golf Digest, Harmon and his son Claude III will fly into The Floridian GC in Palm City, FL to work with Obama.

“I’ve played golf with Ike, Nixon, Ford and President Bush 41,” Harmon added. “I know the President is a real keen golfer … I’m looking forward to it. It should be fun.”

Obama will be Jim Crane’s guest. Crane, the owner of the Houston Astros baseball team, also owns The Floridian.

Harmon said Obama, “just like all of us that play golf,” just “wants to get better.”

Harmon’s teaching sessions have been known to help golfers, especially left-handed ones. For instance, after Mickelson flew Harmon to Arizona for an emergency session before the Phoenix Open two weeks ago, Mickelson promptly almost broke the PGA Tour record for the lowest round the next day. Mickelson shot a 60, one stroke short of a 59. Mickelson, though, could have shot a 58 and broken the record. He barely missed two birdie putts on the 17th and 18th holes.
