Notre Dame Scores 3 Points in 13 Minutes, Then Rallies After Technical

With 7:08 left to play in the first half, a technical on Notre Dame’s coach Mike Brey left the #25 Irish behind #20 Pitt 19-3. Notre Dame has made only one of 19 shots in the first 13 minutes of the game, and Brey wasn’t just upset with officials, he was upset at his team as he yelled at his players, “Are you ready to play now?” The technical ignited a fierce rally and Notre Dame is back on track.

Pat Connaughton hit two quick three-pointers after the technical to cut it to 19-9, and the rest of the Irish rallied after the technical.  Jack Cooley, the 26th best player in the country at www.valueaddbasketball.com, disrupted 7-foot freshman Steve Adams  to just miss his seventh straight double double with a 13-point, 9-rebound game and 51-42 Notre Dame win to shake off the lopsided upset at Providence Saturday.  Notre Dame won the rebounding battle 36-22 on Pitt’s home floor.

Notre Dame led 1-0, and did not lead again until Eric Atkins drove for a layup to make it 33-32 with 10:54 to play, and the Irish never looked back, getting the one more quality win they needed to make sure they hear their name called on Selection Sunday March 17.
