Recruiter of the Year Leaves Saban for the NFL

New Chicago Bears Head Coach Marc Trestman was able to complete his staff Thursday at Nick Saban’s expense. Trestman hired Mike Groh, the wide receivers coach at Alabama.

While Groh is clearly an accomplished position coach, he had primarily developed a reputation at the college level as an elite recruiter.

Groh was named the Rivals.com National Recruiter of the Year for leading the recruitment of elite prospects like defensive tackles A’Shawn Richardson and Dee Liner, wide receiver Robert Foster, and running back Altee Tenpenny among others.

Previous stops for Groh include the New York Jets, the University of Virginia, the University of Louisville, and the University of Alabama. His father, Al Groh, is the former Head Coach of the New York Jets and Virginia Cavaliers.
