Once Promising First Round Pick Leaves Behind Guns, Garbage, Feces in Home

Robert Swift was once among the best high school basketball players in the country. He had offers from the likes of UCLA, Arizona, and UCONN, and the 7 footer was sure to have a promising basketball career ahead of him. Now, he is disgraced.

The Bakersfield native was drafted by the Seattle SuperSonics in the first round of the 2004 NBA Draft, and, unfortunately, he never lived up to that lofty selection.

Instead, Swift languished on the bench until he was finally cut when the team became the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2009. After bouncing around between D-League and overseas teams, it became clear that his once promising career was over.

Like his fame, the $11 million he earned in the NBA was soon spent, and his house was foreclosed upon last year.

Despite new ownership, Swift continued squatting in the house and repeated overtures and visits to the house went unanswered until he recently vacated the home.

The mansion, however, was completely trashed. Guns, ammunition, garbage, feces, and destruction littered the home of the former rising star. Sadly, boxes of letters from those colleges who pursued him so heavily were also found as well as other reminders of what could have been.

Swift is one of many athletes who have had their short burst of fame go up in flames and destroy their lives. However, the wreckage of his home provides a visible reminder of the wreckage experienced in his life and career.
