James Madison Breezes to Upset Victory
James Madison University controlled the CAA championship game from the start, upsetting tournament favorite Northeastern. The Dukes barely made it to the championship game, beating Delaware in a thrilling match-up that was decided by two free throws with 4 seconds left. The championship game was not quite as exciting. JMU ended the first half against Northeastern up 22 points and went on to clinch their 5th NCAA appearance with a 70-57 victory.
Seniors A.J. Davis and Rayshawn Goins led the charge for James Madison in tonight’s effort. Davis led all scorers with 26 points, going 3 for 6 from beyond the arc, while Goins turned in a double-double effort with 14 points and 13 rebounds.
James Madison should expect a high seed, more than likely between 14 and 16, on Selection Sunday. The Dukes will look to build on their momentum from their unexpected conference championship victory to become a giant killer come late March.
