Stony Brook Joins 153 Teams Eliminated After Last-second Shot

Stony Brook’s incredible defense led by the duo of Low-Major All-American Tommy Brenton (6-foot-5) and 6-foot-8 Jameel Warney looked strong enough to upset a power conference team in the tournament, but they will not get that chance after a last second shot by Albany’s Mike Black knocked them out of the America East semifinal 61-59. The loss adds Stony Brook to the list below that no team wants to be on–the 153 teams that have so far been eliminated from NCAA tournament consideration.

Brenton may be one of the most underestimated players in the country. Much like Otto Porter last year, his nine points a game does not jump out at anyone. Despite a slower pace game, his nine rebounds and two steals a game are the biggest factor in allowing opponents only 59 points a game, a total they had achieved again behind 12 rebounds by Brenton until Black’s last second shot provided the 61-59 margin.
