Former #1 Overall Pick Jake Long Signs with Rams

Jake Long, free agency’s best available prize, came off the market earlier this week, signing with the St. Louis Rams.

The former #1 overall pick for the Miami Dolphins had lived up to the hype as one of the league’s top offensive tackles until injuries hindered his performance the last two years.

The signing boosts the Rams who have been active in free agency in the hopes of keeping pace with division foes San Francisco and Seattle who have had a robust offseason thus far. In addition, another former #1 overall pick, St. Louis quarterback Sam Bradford, has to be thrilled with the signing.

Additionally, the pick should have profound ramifications on the Rams’ draft plans, and, therefore, the first round of the draft.

The Rams, one of two teams with two first round picks, could look to address their offensive line, safety position, or wide receiver vacancy left by the departure of Danny Amendola.

With the signing of Long, the Rams may look to address the interior OL if Alabama guard Chance Warmack is available, but they are more likely to draft a safety like Kenny Vaccaro and a wide receiver like Tennessee’s Cordarelle Patterson or Justin Hunter, Cal’s Keenan Allen, or West Virginia’s Tavon Austin.
