First Round Reactions from a Man Whose Bracket is Looking Awful

Once again, the NCAA Tournament has me speechless. The thrill, the excitement, the parity has all combined to prove why many consider this the greatest sporting event of the year. With so much confusion and unpredictability, I am going to have to borrow a phrase from CNNSI’s Peter King to sum up my reactions to the Tournament so far. Here are five things I “think I think...”:

  1. Florida Gulf Coast edges out Harvard for early “Cinderella” of the tournament. FGC looked like a solid team coming in, but the Hoyas seemed like a team ready to make a run whereas I had a hard time seeing New Mexico as a team making it to the Sweet Sixteen. Thanks to FGC, I lost an Elite Eight team off my bracket.

  2. Someone owes the Atlantic 10 and Pac 12 an apology. I mean, seriously, the Selection Committee better send a card and flowers.

  3. Speaking of apologies, I am not sure Breitbart Sports Editor John Pudner owes me one, but I think he was laughing at me when I had Ole Miss in the Elite Eight. While there is still a long way to go, the Badgers can tell anyone willing to listen: the Rebels are for real.

  4. Gonzaga v. Wichita State and Oregon v. Saint Louis are runner ups in the “Most Intriguing Second Round Match-Up” contest. Michigan v. VCU is the easy winner in this category, and my prediction is that the winner of this game ends up in the Final Four.

  5. I should stop making NCAA Tournament predictions. My bracket stinks!
