Injured A-Rod Will Make More than Houston Astros in 2013

Alex Rodriguez, the embattled Yankee slugger who will start the season on the disabled list, will earn more this year than the entire Houston Astros team in 2013.

Rodriguez will make $29 million this year while the Astros will have a combined opening day salary of $25 million. It is unclear when–and if–Rodriguez will play in 2013. He is also dealing with allegations, in a Miami New Times report, that he purchased various performance-enhancing drugs from a local dealer.

The Yankees will have the highest payroll in the majors, and their payroll will nearly 10 times greater than Houston’s.

This week, MLB Commissioner Bud Selig came under fire for saying he “trusted” Houston’s rebuilding plan, which many have equated to doing the bare minimum to field a functioning club.
