Mets Fans Enjoy Both Opening Day Blowouts in NYC

The New York Yankees have long been the preeminent franchise in "The Big Apple." If Opening Day is any indicator, however, that may change this season.

Collin Cowgill hit a grand slam to lead the Mets to an 11-2 home victory over the San Diego Padres. Filling in for #1 starter Johan Santana, Jonathon Niese performed admirably and even went 2-2 from the plate.

Meanwhile, the Yankees, missing Alex Rodriguez, Mark Teixeira, Curtis Granderson, and long-time face of the franchise Derek Jeter, were thumped by rival Boston Red Sox 8-2.
