Upton Bros Both Homer in 9th to give Braves Win

One of the more intriguing story lines in Major League Baseball this offseason was the Braves’ acquisition of both Upton brothers, B.J. and Justin, to join Jason Heyward to rebuild their outfield around the athletic and powerful trio.

As a pair, the two had not yet provided the dynamic chemistry that the Braves could have thought possible, however, that changed Saturday night as the two each hit a home run in the ninth inning to give the Braves a 6-5 victory over the Cubs.

While Justin has been stellar in his first season in Atlanta, B.J came into the game 0-14. However, B.J. got his first hit as a Brave in the seventh inning then belted a homer leading off in the ninth to tie the game 5-5. He is now hitting .111 for the Braves.

Justin, on the other hand, hit 3-5 on the evening, raising his average to .389. His second home run of the season came after B.J.’s in the ninth to give Atlanta the win.

The Braves’ improvement to 4-1 on the season was certainly not due to the pitching of young pitcher Julio Teheran who gave up 8 hits and 5 earned runs in just 5 innings. Eric O’Flaherty was credited with the win in the relief effort.

Chicago dropped to 2-3 with Carlos Marmol being credited with the loss.
