Braves Beat Cubs 5-1, to Improve to 5-1; Freeman on DL
Freddie Freeman, the 23 year old first baseman for the Atlanta Braves, was put on the 15-day disabled list just in time to watch his team defeat the Chicago Cubs 5-1.
In the game, Tim Hudson delivered a stellar pitching performance for the Braves and added an RBI in his first win of the season. Dan Uggla also knocked in a homer for the Braves in the eighth inning, and B.J. Upton was able to get a hit for the second game in a row after going hitless in his first four games as a Brave.
Jeff Sarmardzija suffered the loss for the Cubs despite pitching well the first four innings before control problems got the best of him.
The Braves (5-1) are off to one of baseball's hottest starts and have relied heavily on Freeman. In five games of action, the young star has a .412 batting average with 7 RBI and 1 HR. Suffering with a strained oblique, Freeman felt he could play through the pain and is reportedly angered by the decision to place him on the DL.
