Comcast SportsNet Chicago fired the sports reporter who made a freudian slip and said the Blackhawks had a “tremendous amount of sex during the regular season” during a live television broadcast on Tuesday. The network made the announcement late Thursday evening.
Susannah Collins, the reporter, immediately corrected herself after the mistake and said “success,” which she meant to say instead of sex.
Comcast, though, claimed it was parting ways with her because of other circumstances.
“Due to circumstances unrelated to her on-air remarks Tuesday night, Susannah Collins and Comcast SportsNet Chicago have parted ways,” Phil Bedella, a CSN Chicago executive, said in a statement. “We appreciate everything Susannah has contributed to our network over the past year and wish her the best in her future endeavors.”
Those unrelated circumstances may be a reference to a show Collins once hosted on the web three years ago, which Comcast presumably had known about when they hired her.
Collins was the co-host of a web show called “Sports Nutz,” and the Chicago Tribune noted Collins’s slip “put a spotlight” on what it deemed was “a series of raunchy YouTube videos” in which “Collins pushed the boundaries of sports journalism – and good taste – with sexually explicit reports and potentially offensive racial stereotypes.”
