Chicago Blackhawks Eliminate Minnesota Wild
The top-seeded Chicago Blackhawks advanced to the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs after defeating the Minnesota Wild 5-1 on Thursday.
The Wild played hard in the first period, but Marian Hossa put the Hawks on top at 15:39 with a slap shot from Jonathan Toews. This was Hossa’s first goal since the first game of the series and Toews’s first point of the playoffs.
Marcus Kruger extended put the Hawks up 2-0 early in the second and Hossa made it 3-0 with his second goal of the game. The Wild did score on goalie Corey Crawford, but 35 seconds later Andrew Shaw scored to give the Hawks a three goal lead.
Patrick Sharp sealed it for the Hawks with his third period power play goal, assisted by Toews and Hossa.
Hossa finished the night with three points and Toews with two points. Crawford stopped 21 of 22 shots.
Chicago’s next opponent will be the San Jose Sharks or the Detroit Red Wings.
