Redskins Owner: We Will 'NEVER' Change Team Name
Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder vehemently said he would never change the team's name even if it lost a trademark lawsuit.
"We will never change the name of the team," Snyder told USA TODAY Sports this week. "As a lifelong Redskins fan, and I think that the Redskins fans understand the great tradition and what it's all about and what it means, so we feel pretty fortunate to be just working on next season."
A Washington, D.C. councilman is intent on pushing a non-binding resolution calling on the team to change its name and there has been more of a clamor to pressure the Redskins to change the name to something critics see as more benign--such as "Redtails." Native American groups assert the name is racist and akin to the "N-word."
"We'll never change the name," Snyder said. "It's that simple. NEVER — you can use caps."
