Lester Allows One Hit In Shutout of Blue Jays
Boston Red Sox pitcher Jon Lester retired the first 17 pitchers in a one hit shutout of the Toronto Blue Jays. The 5-0 win ended the Red Sox three-game losing streak.
It was his 10th complete game and third shutout of his career. He had a total of five strikeouts and no walks. The only hit was a two-out double by Marcier Izturis in the top of the sixth.
The Red Sox offense did not help out Lester until the seventh inning. Until then they only had a 1-0 lead. David Pedroia’s single drove home Jacoby Elsbury and sent Shane Victorino to third. Daniel Nava then doubled to center to score Victorino and Pedroia. Catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia was up next and his double scored Nava and gave the Red Sox a 4-0 lead.
