Pittsburgh Penguins Take 1-0 Series Lead Over Ottawa Senators

The Pittsburgh Penguins found a way to score on the Ottawa Senators’ high-powered goalie Craig Anderson and sailed away with an easy 4-1 victory on Tuesday night. They lead their Eastern Conference Semi-Finals series 1-0.

They received a power play goal from Paul Martin and Chris Kunitz, an even strength goal from Evgeni Malkin, and a short-handed goal from Pascal Dupuis. Tomas Vokoun was a little shaky at first, even giving up a goal to Colin Greening in the first, but quickly shook off his nerves and came through for his team. He saved 35 shots out of 36.

The Senators have a grudge with the Penguins after Matt Cooke accidentally cut Erik Karlsson’s Achilles tendon on February 13th. Tempers flared with only 29 seconds left in the game. It was very similar to the huge fights they had with the Montreal Canadiens in game 3. Here are the penalties from the fight:

Hopefully this does not end up like the Senators/Canadiens series and the fights overshadow the fantastic games.

Game 2 is Friday night at 7:30PM ET.
