Crabtree Injury Leaves the 49ers Receiving Corps Decimated

The addition of Anquan Boldin to the San Francisco 49ers was supposed to bolster a weak receiving corps and perhaps be the missing piece needed for the franchise. Now, after star receiver Michael Crabtree tore his Achilles, Boldin will be the headliner of one of the league’s worst receiving units.

An Achilles tear for Crabtree during offseason workouts could be devastating for San Francisco. The former Texas Tech star really came into his own last season and developed strong chemistry with new quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

Prior to the injury, the 49ers were the consensus Super Bowl favorite. With Crabtree likely out for the 2013 season, Kaepernick will be forced to rely on a lackluster corps of Boldin, A.J. Jenkins, Mario Manningham, and rookie Quinton Patton. That being the case, the Denver Broncos may have emerged as the stronger team.
