Patriots Good News Comes from… Putin

It has been an offseason that the New England Patriots would like to forget. Elite wide receiver Wes Welker was lost in free agency to AFC rival Denver Broncos, tight end Rob Gronkowski has continued his off-the-field antics and is in surgery more often than not, the story of “Robert Kraft, the Super Bowl ring, and the dictator” has brought unwanted scrutiny, the Tebow signing, while likely beneficial in the long run, has resulted in added attention, and now tight end Aaron Hernandez is wrapped up in a homicide investigation.

For an organization that has managed to be both on top and off the front page, this offseason has represented a circus-esque nightmare.

However, good news for the organization finally came Friday when Russian President Vladamir Putin announced that he would be replacing the Super Bowl ring he has been accused of stealing from Patriots owner Robert Kraft. In a panel discussion with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Putin said the replacement would be “an expensive object, made from a nice metal, with a stone.”

Kraft has previously said that Putin took a liking to the ring during a 2005 trip and the president took it, put it in his pocket, and said he could “kill someone with it.” It is unclear whether the replacement ring will meet this criteria. Putin also reportedly said he does not remember Kraft or the Super Bowl ring.
