Alabama Fan Compares Saban to Hitler... as a Compliment
One would think that Nick Saban, who has led the Alabama Crimson Tide to three of the last four national championships, would have spent the offseason fielding comparisons to his mentor Bill Belichick or fellow Alabama legend Bear Bryant. Instead, he has been called the "devil," by not one but two SEC coaches, and, now, he has been compared to Adolf Hitler... by an Alabama fan.
A Crimson Tide fan waiting in line for a Saban autograph told AL.com that “[Saban is] a winner, he just does what he wants to do,” says Lee Allen, an Alabama
fan from Decatur. “He’s kind of like Hitler. He’s a dictator. He
brought us back to the top and I figure we’re going to be here for a
while. Money well spent.”
The fan confirmed he met it as a compliment.
Previously, AL.com had reported on a fan who had waited for hours so that Saban would sign a $300 hat. While fans of the Tide have certainly been able to enjoy the successes, fellow fans have often made the news for the wrong reasons. In 2009 a fan ran pushing a baby in a stroller so that the child could be autographed by the coach and Harvey Updyke poisoned rival Auburn's famous oak trees over what he felt was an insult to the legacy of Bear Bryant. Now, a fan boasting the his coach is similar to one of history's most evil men can join the list.
Despite the wild fans, Saban and Alabama will once again put forth a formidable team as they seek to become the first school since Minnesota (1934, a shared 1935 title with SMU, and 1936) to three-peat as national champions.
