Texas AD Stepping Down; Could Mack Brown Be Next?
Long time Texas Athletic Director DeLoss Dodds will be stepping down, costing Mack Brown perhaps his greatest advocate and the man who hired him.
Dodds, age 76, has been at the helm of the department for 32 years and will officially leave in the summer of 2014. Throughout his tenure, the Longhorns have been one of the more significant programs in the country, and it is certainly the wealthiest.
The annual budget of the UT Athletic Department is in excess of $163 million.
Brown, the coach hired by Dodds, is rapidly losing supporters among the Longhorns faithful. The university hopes to have a successor named by the first of December, and the ushering in of a new era would coincide well with the hiring of a new coach.
The ability of Texas to pay a coach top dollar means they could compete for the likes of Nick Saban, and the 'Horns could end up searching for a coach at the same time as another high profile program, USC.
