Hall of Fame baseball writer Peter Gammons apologized on Thursday after he compared embattled New York Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez to the Boston Marathon bombers.
After Rodriguez stormed out of his grievance hearing on Wednesday, saying he did not want to participate in a farce after it was determined that Major League Commissioner Bud Selig did not have to testify, Rodriguez then went on a local radio show and called Selig a coward. Rodriguez also said he did not take performance-enhancing drugs and should not even be suspended for an inning.
In response to Wednesday’s circus revolving around Rodriguez, Gammons went on Mike Lupica’s radio show and said of Rodriguez, “He wants to blow up the world. He’s like the Marathon Bombers… He’s gonna get them.”
Gammons then apologized, saying on Twitter that “It was a stupid, poorly worded ” comparison of “blowing up a process.”
“Alex would never hurt a human,” Gammons tweeted. “I hope I haven’t hurt him.”
