Football at Fenway Park

Notre Dame released their football schedule for the 2014, 2015, and 2016 seasons, revealing that the team will play Catholic school rival Boston College at Fenway Park on November 21, 2015. The Fighting Irish will also visit Lucas Oil Stadium this coming season for an in-state rivalry game against Purdue and venture to San Antonio’s Alamodome to play Army in 2016.

Notre Dame is no stranger to playing in novel venues, recently hosting opponents in Yankee Stadium and Soldier Field in its “Shamrock Series” games. The Fighting Irish close out their season against Rutgers at Yankee Stadium in the fledgling Pinstripe Bowl on December 28.

Fenway Park, used exclusively for baseball immediately prior to John Henry’s ownership that began in 2002, has hosted NHL hockey, concerts by Bruce Springsteen, The Police, and The Rolling Stones, and a mud run. The 2015 game between Notre Dame and Boston College is set to be the first football game at Fenway Park since 1968, when the Boston Patriots of the American Football League ended a five-year run at the inner-city stadium, moving to fields at Boston College and then Harvard University before finding a permanent home in Foxborough, Massachusetts. Long prior to the Patriots calling Fenway home, the Boston Redskins did.
