Joe Namath Jumps the Gun on Super Bowl Coin Toss

Wearing what looked like a mink coat straight from his glory days with the New York Jets in the 1960s, Joe Namath misfired on the coin toss to open the Super Bowl.

Namath tossed the coin up in the air before Seattle called heads or tails.

The alert referee adeptly grabbed the coin in midair then asked the Seattle captains whether they wanted heads or tails.

He gave the coin back to Namath, who flipped it again.

Seattle won the toss and elected to kick off to start the game, which means they get the ball to start the second half.
