Seattle’s public schools ran out of substitute teachers on Wednesday as 565 teachers and 13,000 students were absent on Wednesday as the Seahawks held their victory parade after winning the franchise’s first Super Bowl on Sunday.
Seattle’s public schools have 51,000 students and more than 3,000 teachers and only 2,700 students were absent the day before:
Seattle Public Schools reported that more than 13,000 students and 565 teachers were absent from school Wednesday morning, most likely to join the estimated 700,000 screaming, joyous, freezing fans at the Seahawks victory parade in downtown Seattle.
So many teachers were out for the day that the district ran out of teaching subs to replace them. It had to resort to instructional assistants and Central Office staffers to help out.
“We have heard that many of our schools are taking an opportunity to celebrate the Seahawks win by viewing the parade live during lunch and that staff and students are wearing blue in honor of our team’s Super Bowl victory,” the school district reportedly said.
