Canada swept the curling event at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. The men’s team beat Great Britain 9-3 on Friday, a day after the women beat Sweden 6-3.
No country has ever won both gold medals since the sport was introduced in 1998, and this is the Canadian men’s third straight Olympic gold medal.
The men showed the world right away why they win all the time. They jumped to an early 6-1 lead and Great Britain conceded the last two ends because of the deficit.
“We’re a young team as well, and these things happen,” [skip David] Murdoch said. “A silver medal is something I’ve chased for such a long time and I’m really proud of the guys for everything they’ve done.”
Curling is Canada’s second most popular sport, behind hockey. The Canada women’s hockey team won the gold medal against USA on Thursday. If the Canada men’s hockey team wins the gold medal on Sunday the country will have all four gold medals in their best sports.
