New York Giants coach Tom Coughlin has agreed a one-year contract extension that will keep him with the National Football League club through the 2015 season, he said Friday.
Coughlin unveiled the deal at the NFL Scouting Combine at Indianapolis, where clubs analyze top college players ahead of April’s NFL Draft of unclaimed talent.
Coughlin has gone 90-70 in a 10-year tenure with the Giants that includes Super Bowl victories over the New England Patriots in 2008 and 2012.
The Giants finished 7-9 this past season, their first losing campaign under Coughlin. New York lost the first six games of the season before winning seven of the last 10.
New York has missed the playoffs in four of the past five seasons, including the past two years.
Coughlin, who coached Jacksonville for eight seasons, has a 158-130 overall NFL coaching record. His time with New York trails only Steve Owen, who guided the team from 1930-1953, as the longest tenure of any Giants coach.
