Fox News Facebook Apologizes for Erroneously Congratulating Jimmie Johnson for Daytona 500 Win

Fox News’ Facebook page apologized on Sunday evening for erroneously congratulating Jimmie Johnson for winning this year’s Daytona 500 to its more than 5 million fans.

While the Daytona 500 was in a rain delay on Sunday, Fox replayed last year’s Daytona 500. After that telecast ended, Fox News’ Facebook page congratulated Jimmie Johnson on the win. Others made the same mistake. ESPNW’s twitter account was urging viewers to watch Danica Patrick attempt to win the race, not realizing Fox was airing last year’s running of the Great American Race.

Fox News apologized later on its Facebook page:

This evening, we erroneously reported on the Fox News Facebook page that Jimmie Johnson had won this year’s Daytona 500 race. We sincerely apologize to our viewers and readers for this inaccurate report.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. won the race after the rain delay.
