Harry Reid Blasts Nate Silver, ESPN: 'Bad Most of the Time', 'Overrated'
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) blasted statistician Nate Silver days after he predicted that Republicans had a 60% chance of taking back the Senate and retiring Reid as Majority Leader.
“He gave me a 16 percent chance of being reelected, he gave Heidi Heitkamp an 8 percent chance of being reelected, he gave Jon Tester a percent chance of being reelected,” Reid told the Washington Post, in reference to Silver's final 2010 predictions. “So all polls are about like Nate Silver’s predictions: good sometimes, bad most of the time.”
Democrats have been livid this week after Silver gave his initial predictions for the midterm elections and have even pointed out that Silver had given Duke more than a 90% chance of defeating Mercer in the first round of the NCAA tournament. Mercer, the No. 14 seed, defeated third-seeded Duke.
Reid also blasted ESPN, which houses Silver's FiveThirtyEight blog, as "overrated" for releasing a poll of MLB players that found Bryce Harper of the Washington Nationals was the most overrated player in the game.
