Michael Sam performed poorly at the NFL combine and during the Senior Bowl. But his stellar season at the University of Missouri leaves several teams in the market for the openly-gay pass rusher.
The Baltimore Sun reports that six NFL teams have maintained contact with Sam. In addition to the Baltimore Ravens, the other suitors include the New England Patriots, Atlanta Falcons, Indianapolis Colts, Cleveland Browns, and New York Jets. When Breitbart Sports contacted NFL superscout Chris Landry about Michael Sam’s potential NFL landing spot he offered “teams with strong leadership and locker room like the Patriots.”
Sam performed horribly at the NFL combine. He ran a 4.9 forty, bench pressed 225 pounds 17 times, and jumped 25.5 inches on his vertical leap. Coming off questions about his relatively short stature for a defensive end, the poor showing in Indianapolis likely hurt the University of Missouri player’s draft stock. But after compiling 11.5 sacks and 19 tackles in the backfield during his senior season, the All American may attract a taker based on his play in college football’s most competitive conference. One defensive end likely to go long before Michael Sam is his Tigers teammate Kony Ealy.
Despite landing the cover of Sports Illustrated, Sam is not a lock to hear his name called on draft weekend. Landry told Breitbart Sports back in February that Sam “could go anywhere from 4th round on.”
