Seattle TV Station Refers to OKC as 'the Former Sonics'

A television in Seattle is referring to the Oklahoma City Thunder as “the former Sonics” in its newscasts.

The team left Seattle in 2008 and moved to Oklahoma, but KIRO-TV in Seattle has declared that, “throughout their run, KIRO 7 promises you we won’t say OKC or their team name in our newscasts.”

And that is what they have been doing in their newscasts.

After defeating the Los Angeles Clippers in Game 3 of the Western Conference semifinals on Friday, the Thunder — or “the former Sonics” — lead the Clippers 2-1 in the best-of-seven series.
