Mallory Edens, the young, smiley, blond daughter of the owner of the Milwaukee Bucks, shot to Twitter stardom in the hours after appearing on ESPN with a gaggle of old men during the NBA Lottery.
Miss Edens was asked on TV what she was doing to help her father’s team win the No. 1 draft pick. She replied saying she thought her “lucky Bucks pin,” her “lucky partners in health pin,” and “a lot of positive energy,” would “do the trick” to win the pick. But despite her best efforts, the Bucks had to settle for second after losing out on the top pick to the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Cavs won the top pick for the third time in four years.
But after the May 20 TV feature, the 18-year-old Edens became a sudden celebrity. She saw her Twitter feed go from 249 followers to 10,000 in the first 37 minutes after she first showed up. A few short hours later that number had climbed to 24,000 and it is still growing.
The girl’s father, Wesley Edens, only joined Milwaukee Bucks ownership recently. He teamed up with hedge fund king Marc Lasry to purchase the team in April from former Wisconsin Senator Herb Kohl. In January the team was valued at $405 million or more.
The Bucks may need Mallory’s “positive energy,” though. The team posted a league-worst 15-67 record last year.
