Bucs and Manchester United Owner Malcolm Glazer Passes Away at 88

Malcolm Glazer, owner of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Manchester United, passed away today at 88.

Glazer purchased the Buccaneers in 1995. After a long history of losing, the Buccaneers quickly became a powerhouse. Under the leadership of Coach Tony Dungy, and boasting one of the NFL’s best defenses, the team won its first Super Bowl after the 2002 season. Forbes estimates Manchester United as the second most valuable sports franchise on the planet, gauging the team as worth $3.2 billion. Though Glazer’s investment in the soccer team paid off, the club’s dominance on the playing field has been challenged in recent years by the once-lowly Manchester City and other competitors. The club failed to qualify for the Champions League this past season for the first time in nearly two decades.

The Glazer family announced plans to retain ownership of the Buccaneers. There has been no announcement regarding the family’s interest in Manchester United.
