Big Papi Passes Yaz on All-Time HR List with Two Dingers

The Sox remained the same. The player didn’t.

David Ortiz homered twice in the Red Sox rout of the Blue Jays on Monday night. The long balls, Ortiz’s 452nd and 453rd of his career, move him pass Carl Yastrzemski and into the 36th spot on the all-time list. Yaz still surpasses Ortiz, who played several early seasons in Minnesota, in home runs in a Red Sox uniform. Ortiz needs 58 long balls to pass Captain Carl as 2nd on the Red Sox list behind Ted Williams.

Ortiz’s homered in the fourth and then again in the fifth to make it 13-1 Red Sox. The 14-1 victory makes it five straight for the Sox and eight of their last ten.

The 38-year-old designated hitter owns 22 dingers on the season, good for fifth place in the American League.
