QB Controversy Already Brewing in Cleveland

QB Controversy Already Brewing in Cleveland

The Browns say that quarterbacks Johnny Manziel and Brian Hoyer are equal. So why is Hoyer taking all the snaps with the first team?

“I don’t think one’s any further in front than the other,” Browns offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan tells Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot. “Thursday after the fifth day of training camp. I think they’ve both done a good job. As far as these five practices, usually one day one guy is ahead of the other, and the next day the other guy does the better job. I think it’s been back and forth.”

Shanahan points out that both quarterbacks are learning a new offense. And he notes that although Manziel plays as a rookie, Hoyer returns from an ACL injury.

“We’ll eventually work him in with the first o-line,” the offensive coordinator says of Manziel, “and I’m sure you guys will see that sooner than later.”
