Tony Stewart to Skip Sunday NASCAR Race

Tony Stewart to Skip Sunday NASCAR Race

Tony Stewart will not compete in a NASCAR race at the Michigan International Speedway on Sunday, the driver announced Thursday. This marks the second consecutive race the driver will have skipped.

The announcement came on the heels of the Ward family laying Kevin Ward Jr. to rest in upstate New York on Thursday. Stewart’s sprint car struck and killed the dirt-track driver in a race at the Canandaigua Motor Park on Saturday.

Jeff Burton will race in Stewart’s stead. Stewart, who opted out of a scheduled dirt-track race in Indiana on Saturday, has not set a date for a return to racing.
