Little League World Series Draws Major League Ratings

The Little League World Series drew Major League ratings for ESPN Wednesday night.

The game between teams from Philadelphia and Las Vegas captured a 3.4 rating for the network in primetime. Viewers in Philadelphia spiked ratings in the City of Brotherly Love to a 14.3. In Las Vegas, fans glued to the tube gave the broadcast an even higher 16.3 rating. The 34,128 who watched the game live in South Williamsport eclipsed attendance marks in ten of fifteen MLB parks Wednesday night.

Philly female phenom Mo’Ne Davis, who graces the cover of Sports Illustrated this week, increased interest in the match up. Davis, who had pitched masterfully, allowed 3 runs in 2 1/3 innings pitched Wednesday night. Las Vegas won the game 8-1.

By way of comparison, ESPN’s coverage of the Masters earlier this year grabbed ratings of 1.5 and 1.8 in the first two days of coverage. The network’s Sunday Night Baseball normally attains a rating significantly lower than the 3.4 grabbed by the pre-teen players.
