Report: African Soccer Star Dies After Being Pelted in Head with Rock Thrown from Stands

A top African soccer player died this weekend after he was reportedly hit in the head with a rock that was thrown from the stands.

According to news reports, “24-year-old striker Albert Ebosse of JS Kabylie died at the hospital after he was struck in the waning moments of a match with USM Algerin.” Though the exact object that hit Ebosse is not yet known, the team’s website said a “‘shower of stones’ came down on the opening of the player tunnel following the match, and that Ebosse was not specifically targeted.”

Ebosse was the top scorer in the Algerian league last year and scored his team’s lone goal in their 2-1 loss on the road when he was fatally struck by the object.
