Tony Stewart Will Return to Racing at Atlanta This Weekend

NASCAR star Tony Stewart will return to racing this Sunday in Atlanta for the first time since he was involved in a fatal accident that killed Kevin Ward Jr. on a New York dirt track three weeks ago.

Stewart co-owns Stewart-Haas racing, and the team announced that he would return for the Oral-B USA 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Sunday in the #14 car. Stewart has not raced in three weeks or commented on the matter, but he is expected to meet with the media on Friday and make his first public comments since the accident.

The Ontario County Police Department is still reportedly investigating the incident and has previously stated that there was no evidence at the time of the incident to press criminal charges against Stewart. NASCAR drivers have blasted critics, many of whom know nothing about racing, for jumping to conclusions before all of the facts were in on the matter. Ward was laid to rest nearly two weeks ago and NASCAR has instituted a rule change banning drivers from leaving their cars after an accident absent “extenuating emergency conditions.”
