Report: 49ers Star Arrested for Allegedly Beating Pregnant Fiancee

Days after NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell instituted harsher penalties for domestic violence offenses, San Francisco 49ers defensive end Ray McDonald reportedly got arrested for allegedly beating his pregnant fiancee.

McDonald is out on bail and reportedly said the “truth will come out” and it was a “crazy situation.” The incident reportedly happened at his birthday party and some other 49ers may have been present.

This week, Goodell announced that NFL players and personnel would be suspended six games for the first domestic violence offense and banned for life for a second. As ProFootballTalk noted, though, an “‘offense’ will arise only after final adjudication of the criminal case, which suggests that a civil settlement with the victim that results in no prosecution could help the player escape punishment.” McDonald may be the first player subject to the new rules.

San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh, according to former 49ers player Donte Whitner, one “said that we can do anything in the world and we can come and talk to him and he’ll forgive us except put our hands on women. If you put your hand on a woman then you’re done in his book.”
