NFL Suspends Ray Rice Indefinitely

After the Baltimore Ravens cut Ray Rice on Monday, the NFL suspended Rice indefinitely after a shocking video surfaced that showed him knocking out his then-fiancee in an elevator.

The NFL had previously suspended Rice for two games after an initial February video showed him dragging his unconscious fiancee out of the elevator.

The NFL alleged that it saw the video for the first time on Monday even though there were reports that league officials, along with Ravens officials, may have previously seen the surveillance footage from inside the elevator.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell admitted that the two-game suspension for domestic abuse was a mistake and institute harsher penalties. NFL players and employees must serve a six-game suspension for the first domestic offense and will be banned for a second. Those changes came about after Goodell was criticized for suspending Rice for only two games.
