The Minnesota Vikings have activated running back Adrian Peterson.
The six-time All Pro will practice this week and play Sunday against the 0-2 New Orleans Saints. The former NFL MVP sat out Sunday’s home loss to the New England Patriots in the wake of his indictment on a child abuse charge.
Owners Zygi and Mark Wilf contend that “this is a matter of due process and we should allow the legal system to proceed so we can come to the most effective conclusions and then determine the appropriate course of action. This is a difficult path to navigate, and our focus is on doing the right thing. Currently we believe we are at a juncture where the most appropriate next step is to allow the judicial process to move forward. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and support Adrian’s fulfillment of his legal responsibilities throughout this process.”
Montgomery County, Texas, prosecutors won a grand jury indictment of Peterson after the first grand jury convened on the matter rejected making a charge. The case involves Peterson allegedly disciplining his four-year-old son with a switch. The boy allegedly exhibits multiple marks, including cuts, on his body from the beating.
Peterson, one of a handful of backs to run for more than 2,000 yards in a season, leads the Vikings in career rushing with 10,190 yards.
