Andy Murray 'Yes' Tweet for Scottish Independence Brings Out Boo Birds

Andy Murray may have won a gold medal for the United Kingdom at the 2012 London Olympic Games. But his endorsement of Scottish independence from the UK has made foes out of former fans.

Pro-union Twittericans quickly transformed their hero into a goat. One critic, referring to the 1996 school massacre in which Murray avoided death, tweeted, “Wish u had been killed at Dunblane, you miserable anti-British hypocritical little git.” Others offered more civilized critiques.

Scottish voters marked ballots Thursday in a referendum deciding whether Scotland remains a part of the United Kingdom. Murray, a resident of England, notes that he will not be voting. The 11th-hour endorsement on Twitter will likely more than offset his absence at the ballot box.
