War Machine, who preferred sleep to submission in his three losses by choke, attempted to tap out on life in the Clark County, Nevada, jail at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday by strangulation.
The caged fighter reportedly tied one end of a piece of linen to his bunk bed and another to his neck and went to sleep. An alert prison guard found a purple-faced War Machine on the floor of his cell along with a suicide note. The 14-5 mixed-martial artist currently recuperates in a medical unit.
War Machine faces life in prison should a jury find him guilty of the attempted murder of porn-star girlfriend Christy Mack and her late-night friend Corey Thomas, whose previous fifteen minutes of fame came via an appearance on VH1’s ill-fated Megan Wants a Millionaire.
“My injuries include 18 broken bones around my eyes, my nose is broken in 2 places, I am missing teeth and several more are broken,” Mack explained in the aftermath of the attack. “I am unable to chew, or see out of my left eye. My speech is slurred from my swelling and lack of teeth. I have a fractured rib and severely ruptured liver from a kick to my side.”
The former Ultimate Fighter participant and part-time male porn star went on the lam for a week in the wake of the brutal beating in August.
