Despite his leave of absence from the PGA after allegedly testing positive for cocaine use, golfer Dustin Johnson isn’t letting his game go to waste. He just set a course record that beat golf giant Tiger Woods by a stroke.
Johnson, 30, was golfing at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, California, where he scored a 61, a record-buster that beat the former course record of 62 set by none other than Tiger Woods.
The suspended golfer was playing with his future father-in-law, hockey great Wayne Gretzky. Johnson is set to marry fashion model Paulina Gretzky, 25, already pregnant with the couple’s first child.
Johnson disappeared from the PGA when news broke in August that he tested positive for cocaine. Some reports said that the PGA had suspended him, but the PGA itself disputed the characterization saying only that Johnson had taken a “voluntary leave of absence.”
Even though he is not playing professionally due to this leave of absence, Johnson is still moving up on the World Golf Rankings list.
Johnson’s agent David Winkle commented on his client’s odd upward trajectory at Golf.com: “Somebody pointed that out to me this morning. It’s funny, this is my 28th year in the business and I still don’t understand how the World Ranking works.”
