Flashback: Obama Pledges To Keep Janesville GM Factory Open For 'Another 100 Years'

Then-Candidate Obama at GM Assembly Plant in Janesville, Wisconsin on February 13, 2008. VP nominee Paul Ryan referred to this campaign pledge and the subsequent closing of the Janesville plant in his speech at the GOP convention. The Obama campaign accused Rep. Ryan of lying about the plant closure saying that the plant was already slated to close under President Bush. This video proves that during the campaign, despite any scheduled closure, Sen. Obama gave false hope to the people of Janesville that his election would keep the plant open for “another 100 years.”

Editor’s note: It appears the person who captured and posted this video to YouTube has altered the audio to drown out the applause during the speech. It does not appear that this audio alteration in any way changes the content of Mr. Obama’s speech.
