ACLJ's Sekulow: IRS Scandal Goes Farther Up than Lerner

Jay Sekulow, chief counsel of the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) alleged that the scandal involving the IRS targeting of conservative groups reaches officials who outrank Lois Lerner on today’s broadcast of Sean Hannity’s radio show. Sekulow stated that he was “absolutely convinced” that Lerner was following orders from higher-ranking officials, especially those in the Office of Chief Counsel at the IRS.  Sekulow said “without a doubt” that the IRS Office of Chief Counsel was involved in the targeting of conservative groups.

Sekulow said he wasn’t sure if President Barack Obama was directly involved in the scandal, but argued that any testimony by Lerner would implicate officials farther up the IRS food chain than Lerner.  He further stated that he would be alright with offering Lerner immunity in exchange for testimony because of his belief that her testimony would indict other, higher-ranking, politically appointed IRS officials.
