Monday, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) laid the blame for the "humanitarian crisis" of unaccompanied minors surging across the U.S.-Mexico border squarely on President Obama's "lawlessness" at a press conference with Attorney General Greg Abbott (R-TX) and Congressman Michael Burgess (R-TX) after touring Lackland Air Force Base's temporary youth immigration facility to help handle the flood of unaccompanied children now in U.S. custody.
"We are witnessing a humanitarian crisis that is the direct consequence of Obama's lawlessness," he said. "In 2011 roughly 6,000 unaccompanied children were apprehended tried to cross into the United States the legal but then something happened the next year in 2012 President Obama lawlessly granted amnesty to some 800,000 people here illegally who entered as children, and a direct consequence of that lawlessness, of that amnesty is that we have seen the number of children taking the incredible risks that are entailed with coming across the border grow exponentially. It is gone from six thousand in 2011 to this year it is estimated to be 90,000 unaccompanied children will be apprehended trying to cross the border next year."
In reference the presidents refusal to enforce border laws Cruz said, "The U.S. Constitution gives the president the United States a constitutional obligation to quote 'take care that the laws be faithfully executed' when the president instructed federal employees 'do not enforce the law' President Obama's violating his constitutional obligation to take care that the laws be faithfully executed."
