Hillary Clinton: Hobby Lobby Decision Deeply Disturbing

Monday at the Aspen Institute, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton reacted to the Supreme Court’s Hobby Lobby 5-4 ruling against requiring certain companies to offer their employees types of birth control as part of the Affordable Care Act mandate by calling it a “deeply disturbing” slippery slope.

Clinton warned blood transfusions are against some religions and questioned if they could be banned but the court specifically said in the ruling that “this decision concerns only the contraception mandate” and does not apply to the question of whether for-profit companies could claim a religious exemption for other potentially controversial procedures such as vaccinations or blood transfusions.”

“It’s very troubling that a sales clerk at Hobby Lobby who needs contraception, which is pretty expensive, is not going to get that service through her employer’s health-care plan because her employer doesn’t think she should be using contraception,” she said.  “We’re always going to argue about abortion, It’s a hard choice and it’s controversial, and that’s why I’m pro-choice, because I want people to make their own choices.”
