Gingrich: HillaryCare Gave 'Broader' Corporate Rights than Hobby Lobby Decision

On Sunday’s “This Week” on ABC, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich criticized the “hysteria” that is a result of last week’s Hobby Lobby decision from the Supreme Court coming from some quarters of the left.

Gingrich pointed out that despite those criticisms, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s early 1990s vision for government’s involvement in health care was much more favorable for corportations.

“The hysteria on the left about this is unbelievable,” Gingrich said. “First of all, HillaryCare, 20 years ago, had a broader provision. The bill that Sen. [Daniel] Moynihan introduced for Hillary had a broader provision in favor of corporate right to back out.”

“Second, the Hobby Lobby provided 16 out of the 20 contraception,” he continued. “The only four they didn’t provide are abortifacients, which are a fundamental violation for people who believe that life begins at contraception. So you go down the list. Nobody says women can’t use their own money to buy contraception. In the case of Hobby Lobby, they’re providing 16 of the 20.”
